Our Ten Year Celebration

Tuesday 6th – Saturday 10th September 2022 at Bridport Arts Centre

I am thrilled that in September 2022 we celebrated 10 years of the Living Tree with an exhibition of our creative work at the Allsopp gallery.

I can’t believe it is 10 years ago that Rosie Jackson first introduced Jo O’Farrell and I to each other, and we lit a candle in each other’s imaginations! We went to a Cancer creative writing workshop together in the September of 2012, led by Rosie and held at the Fortuneswell Unit at Dorset County Hospital.

This began what has developed into a huge belief in the power of creativity to help heal, and Living Tree has always offered creative opportunities to its members, amongst the many other ways in which we offer support to those with cancer.

Beautifully curated by Chris Edwards and Libby Jukes, the exhibition was praised for being professional and at the same time deeply moving.

Below we have shared a video of our exhibition, created for us by one of our members, Martyn Allen. And beneath that you will find a gallery of images taken for us by our news editor Liz Baker. Hopefully we can continue to enjoy the creativity of our members from the past 10 years.

Calendar of Events

6th-10th: The Living Tree Exhibition

Living Tree members’ creative work – both new and old – will be exhibited in the Allsop Gallery. The exhibition will run from Tuesday 6th to Saturday 10th September. It is free and open to all. It is being curated by Chris Edwards and Libby Jukes, and we hope you will be overwhelmed and moved by the quality and content of the material.

7th: Celebratory Amble

We are also inviting Living Tree members to join a “celebratory amble” on Wednesday 7th September, led by Rita Bechervaise, which will finish in Bucky Doo Square, allowing participants to then go and view the exhibition.

8th: Poetry Evening with Rosie Jackson

On Thursday 8th September there will be a Poetry evening in the Arts Centre, led by Rosie Jackson, where you will have a chance to hear poems and short pieces of creative writing written by Living Tree members, including the late Jo O’Farrell, plus pieces by Rosie Jackson and the late Sophie Sabbage. There is no charge for this event, but it is ticketed. Tickets are available through Bridport Arts Centre and through Bridport Tourist Information Centre.

10th: Anniversary Party

And finally, to round off the week, we will be hosting a party for Living Tree members in the evening of Saturday 10th September, to be held in the WI Hall on North Street, with food and refreshments and live entertainment from some of our members!
