On 12 March 2018 Sherry and Monique visited Southampton Hospital’s Cancer Research Laboratories. They were shown around and marvelled at the technology available.
The centrepiece was a B-Cell Receptor Detection Machine. This piece of equipment counts individual cells and shines a light on them which shows the colours of the receptors in the cells which indicates the presence of cancer.
On of the images shows two red-topped bottles with live Cancer cells of Leukaemia and Breast Cancer which Sherry and Monique looked at under the microscope.
In one of the pictures Monique ‘lends a hand’ in the Clinical Trials department where they test protein response to new drugs.
All in all an inspiring visit.
